At Hennekam Wine Consultancy, we believe that every challenge is an opportunity to innovate, grow, and inspire change. True progress comes from looking beyond the familiar, embracing new ideas, and acting decisively. Our journey is fueled by continuous learning, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.
We believe that many of the wine industry’s struggles stem from outdated cultural and educational mindsets that limit creativity and stifle growth. Breaking free from these constraints is essential to fostering a more innovative and inclusive industry. Similarly, we see immense potential in the technology sector to transform the wine industry—but only if communication barriers are addressed, and meaningful connections are made.
Since February of this year, our community, Rethinking the Wine Industry, has demonstrated the power of collaboration. Our TED-style newsletter reaches nearly 10,000 subscribers, sharing fresh ideas and solutions. Our closed WhatsApp group, with almost 700 members from 65 countries, sparks critical discussions, while our Vino Visionaries podcast amplifies forward-thinking voices in the industry. On LinkedIn, we’ve cultivated a thriving forum for thought leadership, challenging the status quo and inspiring action.
We believe in building bridges—between industries, ideas, and people. By fostering collaboration and aligning communication, we aim to empower the wine and tech sectors to thrive together. Innovation, inclusivity, and community are the cornerstones of our mission to create a future where wine feels accessible, exciting, and connected to the world’s evolving landscape.
Our mission is to champion collaboration, critical thinking, and bold innovation – challenging the status quo to unlock the wine industry’s full potential.
At Hennekam Wine Consultancy, we aim to address challenges by fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and improving communication across industries. For the wine sector, this means helping businesses embrace change, engage consumers more effectively, and unlock growth opportunities. For tech companies, we bridge the gap by aligning their solutions with the wine industry’ unique needs and aspirations. By tackling these issues, we are building a more dynamic, forward-thinking landscape where innovation and collaboration lead to thriving businesses, engaged customers, and meaningful progress.
Key Issues in the Wine Industry:
Resistance to Change: Many industry professionals hesitate to embrace new ideas and technologies, leading to missed growth opportunities and a stagnation that hampers progress.
Consumer Engagement: As consumer expectations shift, there’s a need for more personalized and meaningful experiences to deepen connections and foster loyalty within the wine community.
Communication Barriers: Complex technological solutions often fail to resonate with the wine industry due to overly technical or misaligned messaging.
Lack of Industry Insight: Without a deep understanding of the wine sector’s culture and values, tech companies struggle to build trust and relevance.
Missed Opportunities for Integration: Potentially transformative technologies are overlooked due to poor positioning and a failure to address industry pain points.
At Hennekam Wine Consultancy, we believe that a connected, collaborative wine community is essential for innovation and lasting progress. By fostering open communication and engagement, we are reshaping the industry’s status quo and creating a space where knowledge flows freely, new ideas are welcomed, and challenges are tackled together.
Our international projects are at the heart of this mission, bringing bold, forward-thinking solutions to the global stage.

Tim Hanni challenges the traditional notion of "perfect" wine and food pairings, asking us to consider their origins. Is this concept truly rooted in history, or is it a modern invention? According to Tim, many ideas around food and wine pairing are based on misconceptions and metaphors, he is calling "bullsh*t" and says it's detrimental to businesses. What if a customer wants to enjoy Malbec with sushi or Sauvignon Blanc with steak? Are they wrong, or is it the wine professionals who need to rethink their stance? It's time to question these "long-held" beliefs. Let's unlearn outdated concepts and embrace a fresh perspective. If we want to encourage more customers to enjoy wine, we need to stop telling them they're wrong. What do you think?
This episode is for anyone who wants to open their eyes and gain new perspectives. My favourite quote from the episode? “How do we buy shoes? We find the ones we like, we try them on, and we find the ones we like and we buy them. Nobody says you have to go to the Shoe Education Trust and learn about leather and learn about how they make shoes, how they make soles. Why can’t we treat wine the way we treat clothes?” Let me know what you took from this episode in the comments, and don’t forget to subscribe so our content will reach you first.
We love meeting our clients face-to-face, so feel free to book a meeting with us in person.
